Embracing Hawaii's cultural icon - the ukulele - we strategized implementing the unique design of the instrument into the details of the store's structure. Marrying the tropical straw panels with the elegance of rich koa wood, Bob's Ukulele is warm and inviting, much like the melodic sounds of the ukulele

We were excited to customize the sophisticated and contemporary details for Ai Amour, the luxury lingerie retail store nestled in the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center. From the entrance to the fitting rooms, Ai Amour is clean and bright, and utilizes a perfect balance of space and functionality for displays and seating. The wallpaper in the fitting rooms was imported direct from England, and the exterior wavy, textured features were painted by hand. Every detail of Ai Amour is special and elegant, and embraces customers with an appeal and ambiance unique to boutique shopping.

International Marketplace

Construction of 28 mobile retail carts

The International Marketplace in Waikiki has been an icon for all visitors for decades. It was a privilege to be asked to construct new retail, mobile kiosks for local merchants. Each cart was created to be self-contained with attractive shelving and bamboo-mahogany cabinets, and each is also secured with aluminum enclosure for protection from theft and the elements. Completely customizable, vendors can display and house their wares and modify the cart to their specific needs, even relocating the cart with ease if necessary.

Wilcox Memorial Hospital

Solar Panel Structures

Enlisted by Suntech Hawaii, my crew and I ventured to the beautiful aina of Kauai to build a solar panel field adjacent to Wilcox Memorial Hospital. At 1.2 acres and 880 drilled holes, this solar farm was only Phase I of Suntech's work in completing an environmentally-friendly energy source for the local community's medical facility.

The Island Art Gallery, located on the first floor of the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center in Waikiki, is another retail project where we were able to combine contemporary, sleek lines with the organic elements of Hawaii. Realizing that the shop will be a representation of the talents of our local artists, we wanted to create a warm environment where sculpture and other fine arts would be enjoyed by visitors and local residents alike. The entrance to the store greets guests with a carved, braided wood that complements the stature of the stonework surrounding the window displays. The interior is contrasted with warm lighting and ivory displays with a rich, burgundy carpeting.

We were contracted by Clearwire on Maui to construct their new front counter and display area for point-of-sale and reception. It was a great chance for PLS Builders to visit Maui and work with a well-recognized and respected technology company

Designer's Challenge

Cable Television Program

It was a wonderful opportunity to work alongside interior decorator Patti Bruce to remodel a young girl's bedroom for the Designer's Challenge television program on HGTV. Ms. Bruce's presentation was selected by the home owner and I was contracted to complete the work. The end result was quite stunning and it was a new experience to be filmed throughout the process.

The Poki

Gate Creation

The Poki is a historical building located in the heart of Honolulu, in the beautiful neighborhood of "Chinatown". Using steel, bamboo and marine-grade plywood, we implemented the frontage gate design created by Fran of InfoGrafik. Her vision and our construction was wonderfully executed to create an eye-catching but sturdy gate for The Poki that blends well with the cultural fabric of Chinatown.
